Description
Angel hair pasta (known in Italian as capelli d’angelo, meaning “angel’s hair”) is a very thin, delicate variety of Italian pasta, similar to spaghetti but much finer. It is typically sold in loose strands or delicate nest shapes.
Key Characteristics
Appearance: Long, rod-shaped strands with an extremely small diameter, usually between 0.78 and 0.88 millimeters.
Texture: Due to its thinness, it has a very light and delicate texture when cooked.
Cooking Time: It cooks very quickly, typically in just 2 to 5 minutes, making it a popular choice for fast meals.
Pairings: Because it is so delicate, it pairs best with light, simple sauces that won’t overwhelm its fine strands. Ideal choices include olive oil-based sauces, simple tomato sauces, pesto, or light dairy sauces. It is also traditionally used in broths and soups in some regions of Italy.
Angel hair pasta can be made from semolina flour and water, though egg variations and gluten-free alternatives exist.
